Social Action

Thirteen million people live below the poverty line in the UK, with individuals going hungry every day for a range of reasons, from benefit delays to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income.

We as a Foodbank centre, here at MCC, provide a minimum of 3 days emergency food to people experiencing crisis in the Middlesbrough area.

Our involvement in Foodbank is also about providing prayer and encouragement, and we are seeing this area of the work develop.

In 2015/16 we helped around 30 people each week.

We have a great team at MCC who share in the same vision to help people in need. If you would like to volunteer please contact:

One of our longest serving social action projects is the Pioneer Credit Union. Credit unions exist to provide low cost finance for people, predominantly on low incomes, and to encourage members to use their money wisely. We were founder members of Middlesbrough's credit union, which was unusual for an English church then and still is. The local credit unions have been outstandingly successful over the years and have joined together to form an overall Middlesbrough credit union called Pioneer, which has grown to a significant size. Our involvement as a church is both practical and spiritual – we provide a number of the members, including some who have been involved in running it for many years, the venue for a local collection point and also pray for the work and the people involved.
